Catching up with 2022- Yung Gravy: "Marvelous"

In a world where hip hop tends to take itself too seriously someone this ridiculous is needed to parody it. His voice is not drenched in effect and auto-tune, and he puts words together in a clever manner than puts himself ahead of the bulk of the industry. The Swiss born rapper tend to make a train of thought wish list for the kind of bitch he needs that is most noted on"Mrs. Worldwide". From there this theme seems to prevail from there. When this happens on "Sugar Mama" it feels more Ke$ha.  Given his track record in dating when he raps about wanting a soccer mom, he seems to be true to his game. The backing track to "Bussin" is a little more interesting than the pseudo disco funk of the first few songs.

He is best when doing things like working off of Rick Astley's "Never Going to Give You Up" or Salt N Peppa's "Push It". The playful "Where they At?" but it is really beginning to paint him into a corner about what he is capable of rapping about. He falls into the color by numbers ton of where today's modern trap influenced hip hop has been sitting for some time. Still there are amusing moments like when he talks about bringing the ruckus to Bennihana. "Steakhouse" is typically bragging but at least it is less of a X-mas letter about the buil-a bitch he wants. He is into fucking your momma though and clearly has mommy issues. "C'est La Vie" is radio friendly in the sounds, but not lyrically.

"Run Me My Money" has marginally more of an old school feel. His lyrically flow is goofy like most millennial rappers. Not the album's best song, but better than what you would here on most modern rap platforms. "Steppin on the Beast" is more silliness, hit lyrics bounce enough on the groove to work. The jack be nimble rhymes adding some charm. "Hot Tub" which is an ode to all the ass in the hot tub, is par for the course when it comes to this album. The "Skiing in Japan" Freestyle finds him continuing to be single minded. I will give this album a 9, as it's clever and better than the bulk of what is being pumped out and called hip hop these days.
