DIGITAL NEGATIVE : "Intersect"

This duo consists of Richard Johnson from Drugs of Faith and Daniel Euphrat. Johnson handled the vocals and samples while Euphrat played all the instruments. The vocals are more spoken with this serving as a more abstract industrial collage, the first song being marginally more of a song and less experimental. By its nature, industrial should be experimental, though it should throb with a darker apocalyptic groove, where this project brings a more disjointed abstract collision of sounds that has more in common with Throbbing Gristle and Boyd Rice than Skinny Puppy. Some old guard gatekeepers of the genre will appreciate it as it is much less of a metal album than they might fear.

"Oligarchy" works even with the harsher clanging that serves as the song's pulse. The vocals continue to sound like spoken word over this. The guitars serve as more of a noise texture than anything riff-oriented. The songs are all around the three-minute mark, to keep the ranting from becoming a full-on sermon. "The Blanks" has a little more groove to it. The effects on the vocals help, which is something that the first two songs would have benefited from, as the vocals came across as being too dry at first.

They recapture the legit feel of old school industrial on the last song. The vocals are the only weak point, which is a consistent issue with this. The beat is pretty banging though and the captures a mood that old school industrial fans will dig. I will give this ep an 8, as it succeeds in capturing the songs it set out to commit to this album. Going into it I was expecting something more Godflesh, but I can live with this as well.
