"Lone Wolf:" is marginally darker. It is certainly more aggressive than the previous song. The guitar harmonies hold up the metal side of this crossover. "Amen" is your typical late 80s hardcore. They keep with this frame of thrashing on " Up the Wall". The vocals are more spoken on the verses, before getting to the higher-pitched screams. The mood to 'Reunited" makes me think more of DRI. "Waiting For Death' has a touch of rock n roll returning to it, which is actually more interesting than when they just stick to the hardcore classics from the 80s. "By the Throat" is much more GWAR sounding, but that is a compliment. "Life is Hell" follows a similar trajectory before the launch into the more straightforward hard core of "The Killing Floor"
The last song finds them racing off to the more familiar path of hard-core-minded punk with thrash tendencies. The shouted chorus is not the album's most inventive moment. Overall I do not think it's hyper-aggression that makes this album great, instead, I think I think it's the moments where that is not the case and you get more of the rock n rolling elements from them. I will give this album a 9, because it is fun and reminds me of what made hardcore fun when I was first getting into it as a kid, and I discovered bands like the Cro-mags, Agonistic Front, DRI, and Suicidal Tendencies. It drops on February 2nd on Svart Records, which puts the label off to a good start for the year.
