Black Metal History Month- Plague Bearer :"Summoning Apocalyptic Devastation"

This band's debut  is pretty impressive. They lean more toward death metal with the heavy lumber they assault  you with. These guys are also in Drawn and Quartered, though this project is even rawer an more intense. There are moments of guitar solos and music not solely intent on ravaging your ear drums. "Defiled By Sodomy" sounds more like Deicide sodomizing Morbid Angel , than anything in the zip code of Marduk Their riffs creep and ooze around you before snarl outward. There is a little more of a black metal feel going into "Decapitated Angels", and while these guys are better than most this month, the aggressiveness of what they do sometimes precedes the infer points of songwriting. The vomit like spew of the vocals has a very convincing acid to it.

Midway into the album they have begun to bulldoze your ears into submission. The guitar solos are the only melodic reprieve in some songs. If it is not for the almost folk metal like melody the guitars take on during "Under One Sign" the songs would have begun to run together, but it p0roves how melody can change everything. "Rise of the Goat" takes a weird darker turns as there is some effect that washes over the song, as the vocals get lower like Archgoat. "Churches in Flames" might be a great song title, but the rush through the actual song, and the vocals lose the purpose they have had earlier in the album.

By the time we get to "In Satan's Name" I begin to wonder how committed to the cause of darkness they are. The need for speed might find them raging heavily, but they are tripping over their feet in the process. "Christbane" has more of a punk feel to it. There is also more melody in the main riff. I will give these guys an 8, while the nature of what they do makes it more likely for the to fall into the traps of extreme heavy music more often than not they remember the goal is making music.
