Gothtober - Corker : "Falser Truths"

Leaning into the more punk side of the post-punk equation, this band has a dark experimental edge that creates a more unnerving feel to the tension that separates the genre from punk. The vocals are pretty aggressive. There is almost a slight tinge of death rock to the creepy underpinnings from the otherwise stiff militant jerking of the staccato riffs. This carries an abrasive punch to the angular attack. The vocals sit further back in the ambiance of the noisy mix for "Edge of Truth". There is a slight Sonic Youth feel to the guitar melody of this song. Things are more uptempo when the song gains momentum.

"Lice" finds them crossing over into punk. To contrast there is more of a groove to "Seeking Marching' which plods along a drone not unlike early Cure, with effects added to the vocals that add to this comparison. "Molotov' reminds me of old Iceage in the jarring manner they bring the chaos clanging down on your ears with reckless abandon. Then things go back to a more straightforward punk feel for " a Fitting Compensation". There is more atmosphere at the edges of the song than most punk, but it feels punk in it's intent despite this fact.

"HE" is driven by the bass. The sullen vocals remain more spoken than sung. The guitar bounces around the songs til things explode on the chorus. The guitars compensate for the monotone narrative of the vocals. "Sour Candy" works really well thanks to the more syncopated bob of the guitars. I will give this album a 9.5, it's more raw and punk than I normally go for , but it is also really well done and well written, so that wins me over.
