Their influences extend beyond the big names into bands like Orgy on "Purpose: Be Myself", they remember the genre was not just about brutality but scored radio airplay from hooky songwriting. They split the difference with the more anthemic "Rockstar". They keep the big energy of the previous one on 'Eraser', which is more dynamic, but not as catchy. Then it goes into more of a neanderthal pounding and chanting with "Never Belong". Between the faster tempo and the rapping B"Dig Deeper" feels like a stab at early Limp Bizkit.
The more deliberate throb of "Fuck With It" works much better, even when defaulting to a screamed vocal for the chorus. In fact, it is one of the album's best songs. "Point of No Return" feels more like filler as it plays off tropes we have already heard here. I prefer when they bring in Upon a Burning Body's Danny Neal to go full on Limp Bizkit for " Rise Above it All," which is at least more fun. They default to the kind of hip hop-inspired nu-metal that bands like Hed Pe churned out when the genre became more bloated. I guess Chris Motionless is on the last song; it feels like a chaotic mess. I will give this album an 8, it has some strong songs amid some of the more genre-entrenched moments, but if you like music from the late 90s, you might dig this, as it brings a modern twist.
