This is an interesting project. The opening track is propelled by heavily romantic, and almost most symphonic chants in the way the song is written and produced. The vocals are getting a great deal of layering along with the effects slathered upon them. This is carried over into the second song "Gnosis' though there are some bluesy rock elements to this one, rather than just drifting out into the mind-numbing fantasia of sound. The way the vocals are presented does not make them the centerpiece. The lyrics are supposed to be based on the teachings of Alister Crowley. Given how the vocals are produced things are too murky to gain much understanding of the lyrics.
Two songs in and it seems that things are more focused on a sound that they have successfully captured. The uniform manner the vocals are produced, and the lack of variation in their delivery, do create a rather uniform sound. Aside from some creepy chords that are picked out not a lot separates "The Light of Evil" from the first two songs. The slow-hand guitar solo is even a bit murky. I do like how some really dark sounds are allowed to grow into really dark moods.; This allows "Be Not a Man" to stand out from the previous songs and feel possessed by its own identity. The vocals still hover as a ghost in the effects processor. There is also more dynamic ebb and flow, along with a fully realized guitar solo./
There is a more organic western feel to the last song "Crossing the Veil" . Strummed guitar figures in promently. The vocals haunt the song with out being fully invested in it;. He might have a decent voice, under the effects and stacked harmonies. The lyrics can not be made out, For all the occult imagery they play it pretty safe sonically .Around the five minute mark things break down .I will give this album an 8, I like what they are trying to do here.
