This German band touches on the darkly sonic place where post-punk and death rock collide. They hit you with high energy, not unlike Bellicose Minds. Female vocals chime in with a more bellowed baritone lead vocal. They have all the sounds dialed in from the '80s, but the songwriting is not too recycled. Thankfully, their singers' use of phrasings is nuanced rather than more of the song with each song. They keep things at a punk pace for the first three songs.
There is more vocal trade-off for the hooky "My Wasted Life' which is the album's best song thus far. "Pleasures" is the first song that relaxes into the brooding shadows after coming off the high of the punk energy that drove the first three songs. This requires the guitar to give the vocals more space. Things ebb down even further for "I Dance Alone," though the drummer keeps pushing the tempo. This is the first time things begin to feel like they are working off a uniform energy.
"Underground" is more straightforward with the male and female vocals trading off. 'The Privileged' carried a manic punk energy under a glaze of spectral effects. "Nahe" finds female vocals taking the spotlight. It works off an energetic post-punk tension. "Reality is" manages to be both darker and more aggressive. This works for me. "My Mirror" echoes many of the sonics we heard previously on this album. I will give this album an 8.5. I appreciate the dark edges painted upon this punk energy.
