This band's 2022 album made it to the number spot on the year's Top 10 Goth Albums list. This time around, they kick things off with a more guitar-forward approach and a more aggressive industrial energy behind some straight-up metal riffs. Once again, the guitar from Stabbing Westward is teaming up with members of the Atlas Moth to bring this weird and wonderful sound to life. Synths help set the tone for the darker undertones of "The House God Doesn't Visit," which finds a creepy ambiance settling over the march of discontent. They have captured a sound that could have come from the post-Manson goth rock golden years.
The title track gives more anthemic purpose to the angst. The vocals continue to have more of a throaty rasp to them despite being rather tuneful. With the grind of an overdriven bass line, that is softened by the counterpoint of synths, "Typo" sounds more like Ministry's Depeche Mode years. This might not have been so apparent to me if Ministry had not just released that "Squirrelly Year Revisted" album, finds them digging back into that era/ "Blood Dance" is another song that finds itself empowered by a big overdriven bass line. Then new wave sounds collide with the more industrial strength rock of the 90s, complete with the brooding of dissociative cyborg vocals on the verse.
This album does not feel as dark as the previous one, so what I want are more creepy, almost darkwave moments like what unfold on " Church Basement". It still has rock guts to it. "Teeth" hits likea heavier version of Billy Idol. The bigger chorus is almost carrying a Sisters of Mercy feel. There is more of a metallic edge to the guitar, building the tension of "How to Be Unburdened". It is a more riff-oriented song, but lacks the anthemic chorus. It feels a little more like Rob Zombie fronting Killing Joke. The album closes with "2AFPT" which is stripped down to something with more groove. I will have to let this record sit with more longer, but my first impression is to give it a 9.5, so if you want some industrial strength music that is still rooted in rock, this is worth your time.
