Death is June -Looking Back in Anger at Slayer's Undisputed Attitude"

Making an album of punk covers was a rebranding that kept the band vital over the years. Tackling songs by Verbal Abuse is keeping things raw and simple for them. Sure, it feels rushed, but that could be said for most punk. The TSOL song works for what it is and carries a little more rock swagger. They include a couple of Pap Smear songs, which is the band Hanneman and Lombardo formed with Rocky George of Suicidal Tendencies. They work for what they are and are really not much different than the other songs. "Guilty of Being White" is a Minor Threat classic that they nail and the other Minor Threat songs they cover later. .

You can tell more about the band's cover than about Slayer's ability to cover them, as they are pretty faithful to every song. Verbal Abuse finds their "I Hate You" stands up to the test of time really well, and shows they are an underrated punk band for sure. D.I is another underrated punk band, though 'Richard Hung Himself" is the classic of the two songs they cover here.  Though both songs have more interesting arrangements than what you normally get from punk. GBH's " Sick Boy' was not on every version, but it's on mine, and a killer song in its own right, so Slayer works well with what they were given.

You might expect a Bad Brains cover, but they take on a Dr. Know song. Not the best song on the album, but it works. D.R.I. feels more like a contemporary of Slayer rather than an influence, but they tackle "Violent Pacification" because they can. "Memories of Tomorrow" feels more like Slayer than Suicidal Tendencies. They bring their own slant ot 'I Wanna Be Your Dog". They give you one new Slayer song in "Gemini," which is an underrated song, as it's heavy and melodic with a serial killer creepiness to it. I will give this one a 9.5, as they could have made a couple of different choices, but nailed the songs they chose.
